ANZAC Day Commemoration – Round 2, Friday 25th April 2025

The Walkerville Football Club will be holding a special commemoration to honour the ANZAC legacy during their Round 2 match against Mitcham Football Club on Friday, 25th April 2025.

The day’s events will commence with a solemn pre-match ceremony led by Norm Coleman OAM, President of the Walkerville RSL. The ceremony will include the poignant recitation of the Ode, followed by the sounding of the Last Post, marking a moment of silence to remember the fallen.

Following the match, the prestigious Don McLaren medal will be awarded to a standout player. This medal holds special significance as it is named after a revered Walkerville resident, Don McLaren, who endured the hardships of being a prisoner of war at Changi. Don McLaren’s dedication to the community extended to his roles as president of the RSL and life member of the Walkerville Football Club.

Through these commemorative initiatives, the Walkerville Football Club aims to foster a deep sense of respect and remembrance for the sacrifices made by the ANZACs. The club also recognizes the profound connection between the ANZAC spirit and the local community, ensuring that the legacy of those who served continues to inspire future generations.
