Indigenous Round

The Walkerville Football Club will be supporting a designated charity

during Round 10 of the AFL season. This initiative coincides with the AFL’s

Sir Douglass Nicholls Round, which will once again celebrate Aboriginal

and Torres Strait Islander cultures and contributions to Australian football.

Pastor Sir Doug Nicholls was a Yorta Yorta man born on Cummeragunja

mission in New South Wales in 1906. Sir Doug Nicholls played football for

Fitzroy before becoming a Pastor and pioneer for reconciliation in

Australia. He went on to become the first Aboriginal or Torres Strait

Islander person to be knighted and hold the position of Governor of SA.

Further information about the chosen charity, what to expect on the day

and how to support the initiative will be provided in upcoming newsletters.
