Walkerville Sports Club Life Membership

At the Sports Club AGM last Thursday Night 13/6/24, Mark Nance (Cricket) and Stuart Callary were bestowed Life Membership of the Walkerville Sports Club.

The Sports Club Life Membership is not linked to games played but for the effort and support a person provides to the club on and off the field, and is something that needs to be approved by the Sports’ Club Committee.

Stuart’s on field efforts do need to be acknowledged. Stuart played for both the football and cricket clubs, 262 games of football and 34 games of cricket. Stuart also played in the 2003 A Grade football Premiership and was the A Grade Best and Fairest in 2015.

Off field, Stuart has been a member of the football club committee since 2006, holding several roles. Stuart has also been the central figure and organiser of the Football Club’s Business Lunch for the last 11 years. This event is the biggest fundraiser for the football club and without Stuart’s time and effort it would not be the success it is. The amount of time he spends on this event is more than people realise, and is something he needs to be congratulated for.

Stuart has also held coaching roles. Stuart was the B Grade football playing coach for 3 years, taking them to the 2019 Grand Final. Stuart was also A Grade Assistant coach, helping the team to the 2020 Premiership. Stuart has also coached his sons’ Junior football teams through Under 7s and 8s as well as helping with AusKick prior to this. Stuart has also been runner and umpire at many times for the football club.
