Another side that is struggling in the 2’s that we accounted for comfortably the first time we met in round 3 and with 12 personnel changes to our side from that initial game, I was keen to continue our good form and dominance and to really put some polish on our set plays and structures which the boys did to the tune of a 160 point win to 1 point. The boys didn’t take them lightly and it was soon apparent that Seaton had come to play, taking it up to us at every contest and around the ground that in the end, the scoreboard didn’t really reflect how hard the game actually was, especially between half back and our forward line.

Our backline was again superb repelling every forward entry to only concede a point for the whole game and were instrumental in setting up multiple rebound forward opportunities through their run, carry and switch play, linking up with silky skills, quick spread to blow the opposition apart catching them out of position and unable to push back quick enough to apply defensive pressure.

The onballers also had control in the middle and at stoppages giving us first use of the ball through quick hands to foot, to provide valuable clearances that became forward opportunities that were converted into majors, keeping the scoreboard pressure continuously on the opposition and not allowing them to settle or set up any structure.

With 8 individual goal scorers Seaton were hard pushed to contain us, as it didn’t matter who they manned up on or tried to shut down, someone else presented and finished off, with Dustin “Cotton Wool” Fromm again popping up with a lazy 10 goal haul to back up his previous week’s 10 and Jay “The Rash” Warland was an irritation all over the ground that they couldn’t contain, be it in and under to clear the ball out or making space for link-up kicks, he was in the action everywhere.

In the end it was another great team performance and display of good hard running footy that left me cleaned palmed for the second time with their coach again choosing to be a poor sport and not shake hands after the game but the challenge now is squarely on next week against a vastly improved Athelstone, who have not lost a game since our last encounter stringing 7 wins in a row together, including top of the table Flinders Park in round 12 so we need to be on top of our game, as a win here maintains second spot and will put us a game clear of Athelstone, Pembroke and either Golden Grove or Mitcham who meet this week and a game behind Flinders Park.

We will practice our set plays during the week and reinforce our structures to prepare for what will be a testing challenge that I know the boys are up for as the reward is huge in the context of the season.
