Chairman’s Report – May 2016
It has been a frustrating start to the season for a few reasons. The A grade have had a frustrating start to the year with the team currently having 1 win and 4 losses. However, when you look at the results you will see that 3 of the 4 losses have been by under 2 goals and the team has played some really good patches of football. Frank is confident that the side can start to put together four quarters and add to their tally wins.
The B grade have started the season very well sitting 3rd on the ladder with 4 wins and 1 loss, that loss being in Round 1 to current ladder leaders Mitcham. Paul has the team playing very nicely and winning by some big margins. It’s a very positive and healthy sign for the club to have depth back in the B grade side.
Mark is still looking for his first win as C grade coach but he continues to be impressed by the C grade side that puts in 100% each game trying to notch up their first victory of the season, which isn’t too far way.
I must add that I continue to be impressed and thankful for the B grade players who double up some weekends to ensure the C grade have enough players. Sometimes these lads play the early C grade game before heading out to their B grade game afterwards. It’s great to see the club has players willing to go the extra yard to help their teammates out.
The oval upgrades have also been frustrating for the football and sports club as we have had to train away from home and have not been able to play on Walkerville yet this season. Recently we have been back training on the oval and I have been informed by the sports club that this Saturday’s game against Flinders Park will go ahead as scheduled and be our first home game of the year, which is fantastic news. It will be great to have as many members of the Walkerville family at the ground this week to support the A and B grade teams and enjoy our first home game of the year.
As many people are aware the football club needs to continue to find fundraising opportunities and a big thankyou needs to go to Brad Henderson and Adam Law who not only are consistent A grade players but they also organise the social events for the club. The two events held so far, Blue and White Cocktail Night and the Quiz Night, were incredibly well attended and organised. Not only were these two events very enjoyable nights, they have helped raise much needed money for the football club. Again, it’s great to see people putting up their hands to help the club on and off the field and with the combined help of the Walkerville Netball Club we can continue to provide a great place for people to enjoy football.
Good luck this week, including the netball sides, and let’s hope we can celebrate wins for all our grades at the club on Saturday night.
